Travel Journal: Halfmoon Bay

Weekend
Get-aways
Sometimes you don't need a grand holiday to feel refreshed.
A simple weekend away with good friends, beautiful scenery and a sketchbook can restore your creative spirit in ways you don't expect.

Travel Perceptions
It is easy to convince ourselves that travel has to be expensive, complicated or weeks long before it is worth doing. I used to think that too.
Yet when we stay home month after month, our routines can become so familiar that we stop noticing the little moments of beauty around us.
A change of scenery, even for just two nights, can be enough to spark new ideas and lift your spirits.

Halfmoon Bay
This June I spent a weekend in Halfmoon Bay on British Columbia's beautiful Sunshine Coast visiting dear longtime friends.
The journey itself became part of the adventure with a drive to Horseshoe Bay, a peaceful ferry crossing and a winding coastal road through Gibsons and Sechelt before arriving at the village.

Travel Journal
As always, I packed my travel journal. I sketched the route, experimented with a new title design and, for the first time, used my little Canon Ivy 2 printer to print tiny sticker photos straight into my journal.
It reminded me that keeping a travel journal is not about creating perfect pages, but rather about capturing memories while they are still fresh.

Friends Old and New
Perhaps my favourite part of the trip was simply spending time with friends.
We wandered through their wonderful garden, enjoyed a memorable dinner overlooking the sea and watched cruise ships glide towards Alaska as the evening light faded.
It was a gentle reminder that some of life's richest moments come from shared conversations and unhurried time together.

Weekends Away
Weekends away are fun events that can be peppered throughout the year.
I was never much of a one for them until my circumstances changed and I found myself living alone.
I have a couple more short travel journeys to Whistler and Tofino which may be some inspiration for you.
